Player Snapshot
Kobe Bryant built one of the most decorated careers in NBA history, combining relentless scoring ability with an unmatched competitive edge. The four-time NBA champion was an All-NBA First Team selection for 11 consecutive seasons, including the 2008-09 campaign when he finished third in the league in scoring with 2,201 points.
That season, Bryant connected on 118 of 336 three-point attempts, shooting 35.1 percent from beyond the arc. He continued that production into the playoffs, knocking down 37 three-pointers over 23 games.
Career Notes
One of the defining moments of his career came during the Lakers' 2001-02 championship run. Bryant averaged 26.8 points against the New Jersey Nets as Los Angeles completed a three-game Finals sweep. It remains the only NBA Finals sweep in Lakers franchise history.
Bryant was also capable of putting together scoring stretches that few players in NBA history could match. On March 23, 2007, he scored exactly 50 points against the New Orleans Hornets for his fourth consecutive 50-point game. Only Wilt Chamberlain had previously put together a longer streak, with seven straight 50-point games. Bryant scored 13 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second, 17 in the third and six in the fourth while shooting 16-of-29 from the field and a perfect 16-of-16 from the free-throw line. The Lakers won 111-105 and finished 4-0 during the four-game scoring run.
Even late in his career, Bryant continued to produce. In 2014-15, at age 36, he became just the sixth player aged 36 or older to score 40 points in an NBA game, putting up 44 against Golden State on November 16. He also became just the fourth player 36 or older to average at least 20 points for a season, finishing with 22.3 points per game.
