Dave Roberts says Shohei Ohtani will be in NLCS Game 3 lineup despite hitting slump, lingering injuries

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters Tuesday afternoon that Shohei Ohtani will be in the lineup for Game 3 of the NLCS on Wednesday. Roberts said after his team's loss in Game 2 that they would discuss what is best for Ohtani, as the slugger is just 1-for-7 at the plate through two games of the series, which the Milwaukee Brewers lead 2-0. "Yeah, I mean, obviously, it hasn't been good. He doesn't feel great. I think for me, it's having a conversation with him tomorrow, kind of try to figure out what's best for him, what's best for us. He certainly has earned that conversation and deserves it. Ohtani reportedly said that he was "very convicted" and "adamant" that he feels good enough to play, per MLB.com's [Sonja Chen. Following Roberts' announcement, the designated hitter spoke to the media through interpreter Will Ireton. He said, in part, "I take full responsibility. … The symptoms shouldn't be the reason why I can't hit." Ohtani's problem isn't just the lack of results at the plate, with a small-sample slump and three strikeouts. The bigger issue has been the quality of his at-bats. So far in the NLCS, Ohtani has drawn criticism for taking non-competitive at-bats. His strikeout against JoJo Romero in the sixth inning of Game 2, in particular, led some to worry that Ohtani might be too compromised to continue playing. Why Cam Smith Shouldn't Be Discouraged by Gold Glove Snub

Credit: Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect The Houston Astros know they have to fine-tune their roster this offseason if they want to improve for next season and beyond. Though the franchise won the division, there's a lot of work for the Astros to prove they can still be as dangerous as they were in the 2010s. One of the biggest challenges for the Houston Astros this season has been the lack of depth in the outfield. Daikin Park is not very friendly to pitchers, which means the Astros need their top three outfielders in the lineup every day. Unfortunately, the outfield unit has struggled, with the exception of one standout player: Cam Smith. Debuting in 2025, Smith is clearly part of the plans for the franchise in the future, and he's proving why he should be now. Earning himself an American League Gold Glove nomination for right fielders both this year and last, Smith has momentum on his side going into the new season. Smith lost the Gold Glove Award to Wilyer Abreu of the Boston Red Sox, who's won the award each year Smith has been in Major League Baseball. But Smith can learn a thing or two from Abreu, who's already won two Gold Gloves by the age of 28.

Caleb Cunningham's Growing Role Is Impossible For Ole Miss To Ignore

Ole Miss spread the ball out on Saturday. No player rushed or received for over 100 yards. With 45 points on the board for the Rebels, there was plenty of action to share. One player who did stick out on Saturday was wide receiver Caleb Cunningham. Yet again, Cunningham put together a great performance. For the second week in a row, he recorded over 50 yards and a touchdown. After a slow start to the season, Cunningham seems to be becoming a critical component of the Ole Miss offense. Cunningham is becoming the player Ole Miss expected him to be Ole Miss Rebels wide receiver Caleb Cunningham (3) runs after a catch during the second quarter against the Missouri Tigers at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect A redshirt freshman, Cunningham only saw action in one game last season. He came to Ole Miss as a highly-touted five-star recruit, changing his commitment from Alabama late in the cycle. Many high-level receiver recruits see a high degree of action early in their careers. That was not the case for Cunningham. He put together inconsistent performances to start the season, but has really leveled up his game in recent weeks. Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding spoke about Cunningham's patience after the game yesterday. "We always have an elite quarterback that can get you the football," Golding said. "There was a lot of patience from Caleb getting here; guys can play too early; they don’t create value for themselves. They lose it and they lose confidence. And so it’s something I think we’ve held him and put him in that incubator for a year and a half."
