The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-5, stuck in a five-game losing streak and staring down the NFL trade deadline as sellers. The short-term is bleak. As for the long-term future? A lot of that depends on Jalen Hurts and whether or not he will be the Eagles' franchise quarterback in the years to come. Hurts is out for the remainder of the season with blood clots. The Super Bowl LIX MVP is expected to make a full recovery and return to football activities once he's off blood thinners. Hurts' health is of paramount importance. But from a football sense, there is uncertainty around Hurts' future with the Eagles; that was the case before the blood clot situation. And now that the Eagles are expected to have a top pick in the 2027 NFL draft, could they draft his replacement? That's what Athlon Sports analyst Luke Easterling projected in his recent way-too-early mock draft. The Eagles currently hold the No. 6 overall pick in the 2027 NFL draft. That will likely change, for better or worse, as the season progresses. But where the Eagles are right now would put them in range to select a top QB if they wanted. Easterling's projection? That the Eagles select Miami quarterback Darian Mensah in the first round. "The most important thing right now is Jalen Hurts' health and well-being, and hopefully, the NFL investigates the events that led up to him being cleared to play an international game despite dealing with blood clots," Easterling wrote.
