Josh Allen's reliance on his legs against the Rams saved the game and highlighted his 'X-Factor' utility. His dual-threat capability remains the Bills' most dangerous weapon, especially when the passing game is stagnant.
The Buffalo Bills' passing game wasn't connecting in its typical fashion against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, so Josh Allen turned to his legs. The star quarterback rushed for 121 yards and a touchdown against the Rams, marking the second-highest rushing yard total of his career. On the Bills' final drive in overtime, he scrambled for 32 yards to set up the game-winning field goal. Bills receiver Trent Sherfield likened Allen's rushing game in moments like that to a Madden player getting his X-factor. "Well, to me, it's not a look. How I think about it is, it's the Madden player with the X-factor underneath it, and it lights up," Sherfield said, per The Athletic's Joe Buscaglia. "He's the only person that I can look at, and I just picture that X lighting up when he's taking off. It's like when he becomes unstoppable." Another Bills player, quarterback Shane Buechele, said Allen gets a certain "look in his eye" when he starts to scramble. "He gets that look in his eye," Buechele said. "Man … It's different. It comes out in these games when it's close, it's back and forth, and the offense needs a spark … you kind of see that look, and then it's a show from there." Allen finished the game with 210 passing yards, but his legs were the reason he won his first overtime game after previously going 0-7 in overtime games.
