Shohei Ohtani, Dave Roberts project confidence ahead of NLCS Game 3, even as injuries continue to stymie Dodgers superstar

'The symptoms shouldn't be the reason why I can't hit,' Ohtani, who hasn't hit, almost certainly because of the symptoms, insisted LOS ANGELES — A rising gust of whispers funneled through the subterranean hallways beneath Dodger Stadium. Each media member, once made aware of the unexpected, passed the news on to the next person they saw. The hum grew into a chatter as reporters filed back into the cramped news conference room. When Ohtani actually entered the room, followed by members of Dodgers PR and his interpreter, Will Ireton, the din turned to silence in an instant, like the shutting off of a transistor radio. Rarely does the Dodgers superstar speak to the media. During the regular season, the established routine was for Ohtani to answer eight or so questions after games in which he pitched. After his two-way exploits were halted in early July, he was made available only a handful of times. The four-time MVP, following an injury-marred second half, is currently a husk of his best self. In six games this postseason, Ohtani is a disastrous 3-for-20 with zero extra-base hits and seven strikeouts. Through it all, the sport's most famous character has looked discombobulated, wounded, compromised, out of sync. His disappearing act is a massive reason the two-time defending World Series champs find themselves down 0-2 to the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS.

Shohei Ohtani remains confident despite physical struggles, insisting his injuries aren't the cause of his postseason slump. His performance is critical for the Dodgers as they face a deficit, and his ability to push through these issues will define his impact on the series.

3 Blazers Takeaways from Ja Morant Injury

Portland Trail Blazers won't have Ja Morant in the lineup for a few weeks after injuring his hamstring. Portland Trail Blazers guard Ja Morant reacts after the game against the Los Angeles Lakers. | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect The Portland Trail Blazers are shaking their heads after losing starting point guard Ja Morant to a hamstring injury that will sideline him for at least a month. Morant showed signs of strength during the first four games of the season, but left the team's most recent contest against his former Memphis Grizzlies team and did not return. Some members of the Portland Trail Blazers On SI staff explained how Morant's injury and absence will affect the team. Portland Trail Blazers guard Scoot Henderson drives to the basket against Memphis Grizzlies forward Jerami Grant. | IMAGN IMAGES via Reuters Connect "The Blazers will need to rely on the backcourt depth they have at their disposal. Though the number of guards on the roster was seen as a negative heading into the season, that abundance can now prove itself as a calculated advantage by the front office. "Scoot Henderson will need to improve on what has been an underwhelming start to his campaign after looking like a potential breakout candidate in the preseason. Hopefully, with extended minutes and an expanded role, Henderson can develop a rhythm similar to what we saw at the tail end of last season." — Sahal Arwo

Falcons vs. Bucs injury report: Brian Robinson ruled out for Sunday

Greetings, Falcoholics! Friday's practices have come and gone, and we now have an update on the health of both the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Falcons have had a lengthly injury report all week, and there's some notable names to keep an eye on prior to Sunday's game. As mentioned, and as you can see, the Falcons have a pretty long injury report on Friday. Several players have been designated as questionable to play, but only one has been officially ruled out: running back Brian Robinson. With Robinson being held out due to his ongoing hamstring injury, expect a heavy dose of Bijan Robinson and some reps for Khalil Herbert. A key name that popped up on Friday's report was right guard Chris Lindstrom, who is dealing with a personal matter that kept him off the practice field. He has no game designation, so it's expected that he will be out there on Sunday. The big news for the Buccaneers on Friday was that wide receiver Emeka Egbuka has been ruled out with a concussion and foot injury.
