Sophie Cunningham to Athletic Column Calling for Fever Exit: ‘Suck It’
Cunningham has become a fan favorite by serving as Caitlin Clark’s ‘bodyguard’ on and off the court. Sophie Cunningham had a blunt response to a column in The Athletic urging the Indiana Fever to cut her loose this off-season: “Suck it.” On her No Hesitation podcast, Caitlin Clark’s favorite bodyguard fired back at a piece by Athletic columnist Candace Buckner, stating she’s not worth the “circus” she creates around the Fever. Cunningham, an unrestricted free agent, averaged less than 8 points a game this season coming off the bench, noted Buckner. At the same time, she helped plunge Clark and the Fever into the middle of a culture war over transgender athletes. Put it all together, wrote Buckner, and the Cunningham juice is not worth the squeeze.
