Luka Dončić
Dallas Mavericks | Guard | 6'7" | 230 lbs. | Born February 28, 1999 | Slovenia
Luka Dončić arrived in Dallas with enormous expectations and quickly established himself as one of the NBA's most dynamic young stars. After winning Rookie of the Year in 2018-19, Dončić continued to raise his production, developing into a player capable of dominating a game as a scorer, playmaker and rebounder.
During his second NBA season, Dončić was already making a strong case for MVP consideration. At just 21 years old, he was regularly threatening triple-doubles and proving that his size, vision and creativity made him extremely difficult to defend.
His offensive game has continued to evolve. Dončić uses a deep collection of moves, including step-backs, crossovers and spins, to create separation and get himself into scoring position. His ability to combine those moves with elite court vision has made him one of the league's most dangerous offensive players.
The numbers back it up. Dončić eventually reached the 30-points-per-game mark in 2022-23, averaging 32.4 points while continuing to impact the game in nearly every statistical category.
His 2023-24 season produced another remarkable statistical milestone. During the regular season, Dončić averaged 33.9 points, 9.2 rebounds and 9.8 assists across 70 games while shooting 48.7 percent from the field and making 284 three-pointers.
He carried that production into the postseason. As Dallas reached the NBA Finals, Dončić led all players in the 2024 playoffs in points (635), rebounds (208) and assists (178). He became just the second player ever to lead the postseason in all three categories, joining Nikola Jokić, who accomplished the feat the previous year.
Dončić has also demonstrated an ability to impact games without taking over as the primary scorer. On May 1, 2021, after scoring 39 points in his previous game, he recorded 20 assists against Washington in a 125-124 Dallas victory. Only Jason Kidd, with 25 assists in 1996, had recorded more assists in a single game in Mavericks franchise history.
His ability to consistently produce triple-doubles has become another defining part of his game. During the 2018-20 period, Dončić piled up 17 triple-doubles, putting him alongside Russell Westbrook, LeBron James, James Harden and Magic Johnson among the players who had reached that level during the previous 50 years.
Dončić's rise has also earned recognition from some of the game's most respected voices. Warriors coach Steve Kerr described his crossover and step-back ability as part of a skill set reminiscent of James Harden while pointing to Dončić's potential to become one of the cornerstones of the league.
