Anthony Edwards

Minnesota Timberwolves | Guard | 6'4" | 225 lbs. | Born August 5, 2001 | Atlanta, Georgia

Anthony Edwards has quickly established himself as one of the most explosive young stars in the NBA. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft out of Georgia, Edwards has combined elite athleticism, scoring ability and an increasingly complete all-around game to become the face of the Timberwolves.

At Georgia, Edwards showed flashes of the player he would become. As a freshman, he became the first Georgia player since 1998 to record back-to-back double-doubles, posting 23 points and 10 rebounds against Missouri before following it with 29 points and 15 rebounds against Texas A&M. He finished his lone college season averaging 19.1 points per game.

Edwards immediately made his mark in Minnesota. During his rookie season, he scored 1,000 career points in just 56 games, becoming the fastest player in Timberwolves history to reach the milestone at the time. He also broke the franchise rookie record for 3-pointers, knocking down multiple threes in 51 games and surpassing Wesley Johnson's previous mark of 31.

His three-point shooting continued to become one of his defining weapons. On March 30, 2022, Edwards hit four 3-pointers against Toronto and became the first player in NBA history to make 200 threes in a season before turning 21. He finished that season with 215 triples, second most in Timberwolves history.

The following season, Edwards showed just how durable and productive he could be. In 2022-23, he played 2,842 minutes, the most by a Minnesota guard age 21 or younger since Stephon Marbury in 1997-98. He also continued developing physically, adding 10 pounds of muscle heading into the season while averaging 21.3 points per game the previous year.

The scoring explosions have become a regular part of Edwards' game. On April 8, 2023, he erupted for 33 points in only 25 minutes against San Antonio as Minnesota scored a franchise-record 151 points. During the 2024 postseason, he added three more 40-point playoff performances, bringing his career total to four and establishing a new Timberwolves franchise record.

Edwards has also shown that his game goes beyond scoring. He has talked about the importance of filling the stat sheet, helping his bigs rebound and doing whatever is necessary to win. In 2023-24, he averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.1 assists.

That all-around impact continued into the 2024-25 season. Against the Clippers on November 29, 2024, Edwards scored Minnesota's final six points in a 93-92 victory, including the go-ahead three with 2:24 remaining. In the 2025 Western Conference First Round, he averaged 26.8 points, 8.4 rebounds and 6.2 assists as Minnesota eliminated the Lakers in five games. His series highs were 43 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists.

At only 23 years old entering his fifth NBA season, Edwards had already moved past Karl-Anthony Towns for the Timberwolves' franchise record in career 3-pointers and 40-point games.
