Player Notes

Double Teams Didn't Stop Him

By 1990, opposing offenses knew exactly where White was coming from.

It didn't matter.

White led all Eagles defensive linemen with 14 sacks and 62 quarterback hurries during the 1990 season, despite routinely facing double and triple teams.

That combination of production and attention is what made White so difficult to deal with. An offense could devote additional blockers to him, but doing so created opportunities for the rest of Philadelphia's defense.

A Dominant Day Against Green Bay

One of White's strongest performances of the 1990 season came against Green Bay on December 16, 1990.

In Philadelphia's 31-0 shutout victory, White recorded:

QB Hurries

7

Sacks

1.5

The numbers tell only part of the story. Seven quarterback hurries meant White was repeatedly disrupting the Packers' passing game even when he wasn't finishing the play with a sack.

Pro Bowl Run

White's dominance was becoming impossible to overlook.

The 1990 season marked his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl selection, putting him firmly among the NFL's elite defensive players.

For a defensive lineman, consecutive Pro Bowl appearances are a strong measure of sustained impact, and White had established himself as one of the league's premier pass rushers year after year.

From Philadelphia to NFL Icon

White spent the first half of his NFL career with Philadelphia, where he became the centerpiece of one of the league's most intimidating defenses.

He later joined the Green Bay Packers and helped lead the franchise to its first Super Bowl championship in the modern era.

In Super Bowl XXXI, White recorded three sacks, helping the Packers defeat the New England Patriots 35-21.

It was the final piece of an already remarkable career.

Career Legacy

White finished his NFL career with 198 sacks, ranking among the greatest pass rushers in league history.

He was a:

Pro Bowls

13×

First-Team All-Pro

8×

NFL Defensive Player of the Year

2×

His 198 career sacks remain one of the defining numbers associated with his career.

Player Notes

Reggie White's legacy is built around a simple idea:

You couldn't keep him out of the game.

Double teams slowed him down. They didn't eliminate him.

His combination of size, strength and technique allowed him to generate pressure from the defensive end position and consistently affect quarterbacks. His production in Philadelphia established him as a superstar, while his later success in Green Bay cemented his reputation as one of the greatest defensive players of his era.

Collectibles Note

Reggie White has a particularly strong collectible profile because he represents one of the most recognizable defensive stars of the 1980s and 1990s.

His collecting story is tied to several major chapters of NFL history:

Philadelphia Eagles legend • Green Bay Packers champion • Pro Football Hall of Famer • 198 career sacks • 13× Pro Bowler • 2× Defensive Player of the Year

His Eagles cards are especially important to collectors because they capture White during the period when he established himself as one of football's most feared defensive players.

His Packers cards add another important chapter, representing the veteran star who helped bring a Super Bowl championship back to Green Bay.

Investment Perspective

Players Invest Take: Reggie White is the type of defensive player whose collectible value is supported by both statistics and historical significance.

He wasn't simply a productive pass rusher. He was a player offenses had to build their game plan around.

The 1990 card captures that perfectly: 14 sacks, 62 QB hurries and a fifth consecutive Pro Bowl despite constant double and triple teams.
